The very distinctive blue color of the sky here is the result of the climate and the very fresh air produced by the Japanese Alps, which run through the center of Japan, and the Yatsugatake Range. The specific color is called “Yatsugatake Blue." Under such sky, there is an area where winds blow within the range of 6 degree Celsius and two seasons co-exist. The geographical structures of upland valleys, highlands and mountains are all within 1000m difference in altitude.
Within the world of this 1000m sky resort, Yatsugatake, the importance of nature has been taught to humans for a very long time. The importance of having eyes to see the heart of nature and having
ears to listen to the sound of the breathing of animals and plants in the ecosystem. Also, the importance of cultivating a life within nature and a culture to love nature, and the power to create art.
Therefore, here should be the place where you come to visit repeatedly, get back the clear eyes and good ears, rediscover the pureness of yourself. Be true to yourself, and fill yourself fully with the power of nature by yielding yourself to the beautiful nature in Yatsugatake. Therefore, we must protect this environment here in this 1000m sky resort in Yatsugatake.
The enormous Yamataka Jindai Sakura is located inside Jisso-ji temple of Mukawa-cho. It is one of the three largest, most famous sakura trees in Japan. It is said to be about 2000 years old, and of a wild ""Edo Higan"" variety of sakura trees. It continues to blossom after so many centuries, and its eternal, timeless presence inspires certain religious reverence among many of its admirers. Jindai sakura is deeply loved and respected by sakura fans all over Japan.
The tree stands 10.3m (34ft) tall, circumference of the trunk measures up to 11.8m (39ft), it is the oldest, largest tree in Japan, and became the first national natural monument during the Taksho period (approx. 100 years ago). In 1990 it was also selected as one of the 100 memorable trees of Japan. The legend has it that Yamato Takeru No Mikoto, a legendary Prince planted the tree when he went on an expedition to the east. This episode inspired the name of the tree. Also around 13C, Saint Nichiren said a prayer when he saw that the tree was on its decline. The tree miraculously responded to his prayer and bounced back. Therefore the tree is also called ""Myoho Sakura""in honor of Nichiren's teaching.

Yatsugatake is a name of massif with many peaks included 2899 miters high Akadake and has been selected as one hundred great Japan mountains.
Today we would like to share about folk story of Yatsugatake.
Once upon a time, goddess of Mt.Fuji was really proud of herself being the highest mountain in Japan. But one day, god of Yatsugatake said, "No, I am actually higher than you do.".
Since they both strongly proud of being the highest, these two god went to ask Amida Nyorai to judge which is the highest
So Nyorai decided to build a long and strong rain gutter between top of these two mountains and pour water to it.
"Water never lies and water always flows downhill. Which means if water flows your side, you're lower."
When Nyorai poured water, water flowed to Mt. Fuji side.
However, goddess of Mt.Fuji couldn't accept her loss and hit the Yatugatake's head really hard with the rain gutter. Since she hit him too hard, his head broke into eight parts and became the lower mountains.

Q: Why the night sky of Yatsugatake is so striking?
A: Because of the pure, clear air. Without dusts and pollution getting in between, the stars can be seen much more clearly. Unlike large cities, here we have few disturbing illuminations on the ground, and the surrounding mountains block out the illuminations from the other areas. The weather is stable here and there are many clear nights, so we have more opportunities to enjoy the starry sky.

The shrine belongs to the oldest sect of Shinto religion, and worships Tensho-Daijin, God of the Sun. It teaches you to purify your soul, take one day at a time and maintain a positive, vital spirit.
Inside the shrine there are two pavilions, one that worships fire, the other water. On the days of a month which carry the number two, a purifying flame is lit in the fire pavilion, a sacred rite of their religion. Their famous noh-stage is a popular spot for a traditional style wedding. On August 3 every year, "Yatsugatake Takigi-Noh" is performed in a grand fashion, as a part of the summer "Reitaisai" festival, it is a local symbol of mid-summer.

The waterfall is located in the upstream of the Ioshiudoro River which gathers the water from the northern face of the southern Alps and it is the largest waterfall in the east of Japan. It is said that the origin of the name of the waterfall is that in the olden days, you cleanse yourself with the water from the waterfall to pray for the Shinto Buddha. It is a harvest festival, which had firstly held by Dr. Paul Rusch, a father of Kiyose, gathering local people to appreciate autumn harvest. On the special stage in pasture, famous artists will give a concert, and there are over 20 food stands of local beer, wine, bacon, pizza, Soba, dumpling etc. with local ingredients. At the craft space, you can get one of a kind by an artist here. Why don’t you spend a nice time with country atmosphere in autumn pastoral day?
